ate.2013.03.19.l.jpg

Snack: Japanese rice crackers, the edamame flavored ones from yesterday. And later, some smoked squid.

Dinner: Bacon cheeseburger. With a homemade 4.4 oz. (before cooking) beef patty, Cabot cheddar cheese, 1 slice of bacon, Stubbs barbecue sauce and lettuce on a whole wheat hamburger roll. And 3.0 oz. Cascadian organic shoestring French fries, seasoned.

ate.2013.03.19.d.jpgThere is no comparison to this. What's interesting is that my burger started out at 4.4 oz. and the McDonalds quarter pounder theoretically started out at 4.0 oz. before cooking, but it's half the thickness when cooked! It is bigger in diameter, so that's part of it, but mine being from really lean home-ground steak just results in a lot more burger being left, presumably. One day I'll weight them and get to the bottom the mystery.

ate.2013.03.07.l.jpg
And 2 glasses of Viña Nubilla malbec.

Weight at beginning of the day: 123.4 lbs.

ate.2013.03.18.b.jpg

Snack: 1.0 oz. Sriracha chex mix.

Snack: Wakame soup (instant). This is pretty good! Seaweed, scallions, sesame seeds, and only 17 calories. I think. The package is in Japanese.

ate.2013.03.18.s1.jpg

Lunch: Pork with broccoli, scallions and noodles.

ate.2013.03.18.l.jpg

Snack: Japanese rice crackers. I think they're edamame flavored. It's hard to tell because the package is in Japanese. Judging from the picture on the package and taste, I'd say edamame.

ate.2013.03.18.s2.jpg
And some smoked squid.

Make a batch of basic red wine tomato pasta sauce. The sauce requires 4.0 oz. of wine, which would put me out of cycle with a half-bottle per day. So I drank a glass and a half while making the sauce to even things out.

Thin-crust pizza #3

ate.2013.03.09.c5.jpg
I think I'm finally getting the hang of making pizza! This was delicious! It's two Italian sausage, green pepper and mushroom pizzas, and I had half of one for dinner.

I have an updated recipe at Thin crust pizza #4. It's not strictly better than this one, though I prefer the 9 oz. of dough per serving in that version better.

My crusts are definitely getting rounder, though they became a little oblong getting them onto the pizza stone. I made this batch of pizza dough ahead of time and froze it in 6.0 oz. servings. I'm now forming them by hand, though when I first started out I did use a rolling pin. I'm still not throwing them in the air.

ate.2013.03.09.c3.jpg
Here are my toppings. I pre-cook the Italian sausage, which I also use for spaghetti with Italian sausage.

ate.2013.03.09.c2.jpg
I often make my own pizza sauce but in this case I just used sauce from a jar.

ate.2013.03.09.c6.jpg
Preheat the oven to 500°F with a pizza stone on the lowest rack. I preheat for about 30 minutes to make sure the pizza stone is good and hot.

Here are my prepared pizzas. The layers are dough, sauce, red pepper flakes, mozzarella cheese then toppings.

ate.2013.03.09.c4.jpg
Put a good amount of semolina flour on a peel and slide each pizza onto the pizza stone. Cook for 15 minutes.

I ate half of one pizza for dinner.

ate.2013.03.09.d.jpg
The rest I vacuum sealed and froze.
